THE GARDEN

The Nicholson Project is located in the Fairlawn neighborhood in DC's Ward 7, which is officially designated as a food desert. Envisioned as a central point of engagement with our community, our garden offers a unique opportunity for programming at The Nicholson Project around the intersection of the arts, farming, and the natural world.

In 2019, Nicholson partnered with Love and Carrots, to design, plant, and manage the 15-bed organic garden in Nicholson’s backyard. Since then we have worked with some amazing Garden Managers who lead our Nicholson’s garden activity to engage the community, artists, other nonprofits, and schools to grow and harvest food from the garden, as well as engage in food equity initiatives. Since opening our doors we have distributed over 10,000 servings of fresh greens, produce, and herbs to our direct community.

PRODUCE DISTRIBUTION

We welcome our neighbors to the garden for produce distribution. See what’s growing in the garden beds, and meet our community of gardeners. Produce bags are available, BYO-Bag is encouraged. Just email us ahead of time to make sure someone is there to assist with proper harvest of the various produce and herbs we have growing!

MEET OUR GARDEN MANAGER PETER LEWIS

Peter Lewis is an avid gardener, artist, and chef. He has been working with us since 2022 and is the main point of contact for our garden activities and distribution during peak growing season. In addition to being our Garden Manager, Peter manages seeds starts and runs the Community Composting Program at Koiner Farm in Silver Spring, MD.
